A woman was hospitalized after being stabbed in the face with a homemade shank during what police described as a random attack in downtown Miami on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The incident occurred in the area of Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 8th Street, near the Kaseya Center. Miami Fire Rescue transported the victim to a local hospital (reportedly Ryder Trauma Center) with a stab wound to the face. She was listed in stable condition.
Witnesses described the scene as shocking, with one saying the woman’s face was covered in blood. The victim was reportedly walking her dog at the time of the attack in broad daylight. Miami Police took a suspect into custody after an hours-long standoff. Officers used a Taser to subdue the man, who was ranting and not complying.

Authorities said he has a lengthy criminal history, including prior incidents of being combative with police. His identity has not been released. Police believe the attack was random and unprovoked. No further details on charges or the victim’s identity were immediately available.
