20-Year-Old Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder in Deadly DUI Crash in Wichita

A 23-year-old woman, identified as Ashley Peralta, died after a crash in central Wichita early Saturday morning, May 17, 2026. Wichita police responded to the single-vehicle crash around 1:19 a.m. in the 1700 block of East Douglas Avenue near Hydraulic. Peralta, a passenger, was transported to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. 

The driver, 20-year-old Cesar Arreola-Garcia, sustained minor injuries but refused medical treatment. He was detained on suspicion of DUI and later booked into Sedgwick County Jail on charges including second-degree murder, DUI, possession of a stolen firearm, and minor in consumption. Arreola-Garcia remains in custody on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 1. 

Police continue to investigate the incident.
